Photo ID Requirement to Vote


The Michigan Supreme Court ruled on July 18, 2007 that a 1996 law which requires voters to present photo identification in the polls when applying for a ballot is constitutional and enforceable.  (See MCL 168.523)



Please Have Photo ID Available and Ready


The following will be acceptable:


·       Driver’s license or personal identification card issued by the State of Michigan or other state.

·       Federal or state government-issued photo identification

·       U.S. passport

·       Military identification card with photo

·       Student identification with photo form a high school or an accredited institution of higher learning

·       Tribal identification card with photo

City Hall Closures




A voter who states they do not have photo ID (with or without alternative non-photo identification) must sign an “Affidavit of Voter Not in Possession of Picture Identification”


Failure to produce photo identification or sign the affidavit will result in the inability to obtain a ballot.
