Marihuana Licensing

*Please note that cannabis used for medical purposes is referred to as "Marihuana" under the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act and is not a misspelling of marijuana.  See Sec. 33.26421 - 333.26430 of the State Act.

The Iron Mountain City Council has approved amendments to the City Code of Ordinances regulating marihuana facilities and the selection of license applicants within the City of Iron Mountain.


Medical Marihuana

Chapter 14, Article VII, Section 14-300

The purpose of this ordinance is to implement the provisions of the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act, (MCL 333.26421 et seq.), the Michigan Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MCL 333.27101 et seq.) and the Marihuana Tracking Act (MCL 333.27901 et seq.), so as to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the residents and patients of the city by setting forth the manner in which medical marihuana facilities can be operated in the city.   


Chapter 74, Article IV, Section 74-432 

The purpose of this ordinance is to authorize the establishment of certain types of medical marihuana facilities in the City of Iron Mountain and to provide for the adoption of reasonable restrictions to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of the community at large; retain the character of neighborhoods and business districts; and mitigate potential impacts on surrounding properties and persons.


Recreational Marihuana

Chapter 14, Article VII, Section 14-310

The purpose of this ordinance is to implement the provisions of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act, Initiated Law 1 of 2018, MCL 333.27951 et seq., so as to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the city by setting forth the manner in which recreational marihuana establishments can be operated in the city.


Chapter 74, Article IV, Section 74-433

The purpose of this ordinance is to authorize the establishment of certain types of recreational marihuana establishments in the City of Iron Mountain and to provide for the adoption of reasonable restrictions to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of the community at large; retain the character of neighborhoods and business districts; and mitigate potential impacts on surrounding properties and persons.
