The Billing Process

Iron Mountain is split into four utility billing sections. Sections 1, 2, and 3 are billed bimonthly. Section 4 is for businesses and is billed monthly. Map

Approximate Section Sizes: Section 1 includes 1235 locations, section 2 includes 1130 locations, section 3 includes 1020 locations, section 4 includes 160 locations.

The City has one meter reader who walks door to door to visit each home and business within the City. Each location is an actual read, the City does not currently estimate billings. A hand-held read device records the read data from each location.

The handheld is returned to the office and data is imported into our processing software.

Each section has it's own reading and billing schedule. Once the meter reader is finished reading all locations in a section the Utility Billing Clerk begins the billing process and produces water bills to be mailed.

Utility Rates

Rates are based on meter size and water used. The typical residential meter size is 5/8" or 3/4". 

Garbage Rate: $10.10

           $1.50 Extra 95 Gallon Container

Water Usage Rate:

Residential $32.82 per 1,000 cubic feet

Commercial $43.72 per 1,000 cubic feet

Water Fixed Charge (Based on meter size)

Sewage Rate: based on water consumption: $42.69 per 1,000 cubic feet
